A Colorado teen who allegedly raped a young girl was handed over to the police last Thursday by his own mother.

Fort Collins Police issued an arrest warrant on Oct. 24 for Elijah Jordan Jackson, 19, before his mom drove him from Wyoming to a deputy waiting at Larimer County Jail, 9NEWS.com reports.

"Certainly, a very unusual situation," Larimer County Sheriff Justin Smith said. "What was unusual was when the deputy spoke with the suspect's mother, and she found out about the charges, she vowed to take care of it."

Jackson is accused of raping a 14-year-old girl in Fort Collins in February, notes.

"Certainly, we do have family members cooperate, but to have mom go out of state and pick somebody up and bring them into the jail, first time in a quarter century I've seen it occur," Smith said.

Jackson denied the sexual assault allegation made against him and said that he turned himself in to authorities, not his mom.

"I'm sure when you're in jail, the last thing you want is for anybody in there sitting in a cell next to you know that your mom brought you to jail," Smith said.

Authorities said the mother saved them a lot of money that would have been used to go through the Wyoming court system to get an extradition to bring Jackson back.
