SOTT FOCUS: NASA map downplays sharp rise in meteor fireball impacts over last 20 years
NASA's Near Earth Object (NEO) Program published a diagram a few days ago, showing 556 mapped comet/asteroid fragment impacts on Earth over the last 20 years (see above). NASA says it's based on data gathered from 1994-2013 on small asteroids impacting Earth's atmosphere to create 'fireballs, adding that "."
Note the random distribution of impacts around the globe. But note also what the map and accompanying NASA report do indicate: the year-on-year distribution of those impact events over that 20-year period. This omission enables them to give the following misleading subheading to their report:
It happens all the time: small asteroids impact Earth's atmosphere
By not providing a year-on-year breakdown of the impacts, and by including their rather banal headline, NASA leaves us to assume that these events were more or less evenly distributed over those 20 years - on average, 27 fireball events of note in 2013 (556 total events/20 years). But we have serious doubts about this.
We know from the American Meteor Society that there were nearly 3,500 events in 2013 alone - and just in the US. Check out the data for yourself: browse through the AMS Events database. Select for events in 2013 with both 'sound' and 'fragmentation' reported. Note how many of last year's 184 US fireball events, that were large enough to be both seen breaking up heard exploding, were witnessed from multiple US states. Now go back to the NASA world fireball map from 1994-2013. Assuming its random global distribution is accurate, we can try a little exercise in extrapolation to get a figure for significant fireball events globally in 2013.
The surface area of the US is 10 million km2. The surface area of Earth is 510 million km2. Dividing 10 into 510 we get 51. So 51 x 184 = 9,384 fireball events in 2013 large enough to produce fragmentation trails that were visible from the ground, and produce atmospheric explosions loud enough to be heard from the ground. There are other complicating factors of course: the angle at which a comet/asteroid fragment enters the atmosphere, its rate of speed upon entry, its electrical interaction with different charge layers of the atmosphere, its composition, etc can all influence how far it will travel through the atmosphere before disintegrating.
Nevertheless, I think we can all agree that the NASA's space hazard numbers are cooked in such a way as to give the impression that impacts do not happen that often and, more importantly, 'they have always happened as regularly as they do today'.
NASA assures us that "finding and characterizing hazardous asteroids to protect our home planet is a high priority" for the US government's space agency, and yet it gives zero indication that it is aware - or would like the public to become aware of - the massive increase in fireball events during this time period. As Pierre Lescaudron wrote in Earth Changes and the Human-Cosmic Connection:
"Data collected by the American Meteor Society indicates that the number of confirmed meteor fireballs in our atmosphere has increased by 700% over the period 2005-2013. More than 2,000 confirmed meteors were observed over the USA in 2012; nearly 3,500 were observed in 2013. That amounts to a 64% increase from one year to the next."
NASA will undoubtedly have access to wider data coverage than AMS, which only began reporting after the increase in meteor fireball events was first noticed and tracked by SOTT.net in 2002. Nevertheless, the agency continues to live up to its moniker ('Never A Straight Answer') by failing miserably in its role of informing the public about the reality of the threat from 'space rocks'.
NASA's tendency for schizophrenic breaks with reality could not have been more ironically illustrated by the dual event that took place on February 15th, 2012, when space agencies, 'experts' and the mainstream media reassured the general public that asteroid 2012-DA14 was due to safely pass by our planet. It did, but within hours another separate asteroid/comet fragment unexpectedly slammed into the atmosphere and exploded over the Russian city of Chelyabinsk.
So the question is whether it is really a 'high priority' for the US government to actually publish accurate statistics on Near-Earth Hazards, or whether it's just more 'perception management' based on 'bogus science'?
NASA reassures us that it is working on asteroid-deflection technologies, many of which are patently absurd. How can they deflect objects if they can't even see all of them coming? The only real 'deflection' on display are efforts to distract the public from incoming fireballs by minimizing the threat they pose and making it appear that our 'authorities' are able to protect us.
While the International Space Station is having to perform, with increasing regularity, evasive maneuvers to dodge 'space junk', fireball events are being falsely attributed to 'defunct satellites' - usually Russian - and ICBM missile tests - also usually Russian. It's not difficult to see how in today's climate of Cold War 2TM hysteria, the threat - real or hyped - of global or regional war serves perfectly as a smokescreen to disguise the very real celestial threat.
As the British astronomer Victor Clube said:
"We do not need the celestial threat to disguise Cold War intentions; rather we need the Cold War to disguise celestial intentions!"
Oh sure, NASA it encourages the general public to "help participate in the hunt for potentially hazardous Near Earth Objects through the Asteroid Grand Challenge", all the while consistently downplaying the threat by ignoring the elephant in the living room - the shocking increase in fireball events. Like we said, it's all about perception management, like everything else coming from Western governments these days: superficiality over substance is the rule.
The 'perception' therefore is that governmental agencies like NASA can find these 'hazardous asteroids' and even 'redirect' them if necessary and so 'protect' us. We can even help by participating in the 'Asteroid Grand Challenge! This is pure propaganda.
Why do our psychopathic elites maintain this illusion of control, this perception of 'trust in us, everything will be alright'? Well, as Laura Knight-Jadczyk writes in her book, Comets and the Horns of Moses:
[...] given that human history appears to be defined by a succession of more or less corrupt ruling elites, and if we are to assume that such corruption (and its spread throughout society) is the mechanism by which a civilization attracts cosmic catastrophe, blaming and deposing the elite is a good solution. The problem, however, is that the underlying mechanism is not understood by the people, which means that they lack the knowledge that, if they are to prevent further destruction, they must, at all costs, prevent the establishment of any future corrupt elite.
In the end, the people and the elite both seek a paradigm that downplays cyclical catastrophes, but they do it for different reasons. The people want to relieve the enormous stress of a certain but unpredictable major catastrophe, while the elite want to remain in power. The compromise that serves both objectives is the illusion of an elite that is able to protect the people from any disaster. This illusion can take various forms: rituals to appease the gods, revision of history displaying a uniformitarian, uneventful evolution of humanity, and lots and lots of propaganda.
This lie works well during the periods of calm between two major catastrophes. However, history shows that when famines, earthquakes and plagues have struck and taken a heavy toll, when volcanoes erupt or comets blaze across the sky or meteor storms and weather anomalies increase, the illusion collapses, the raison d'être of the elites (i.e. protecting the people) collapses and the target has always and will ever be, ultimately, the ruling classes. And they know it. Thus, when such as Anaxagoras or Socrates or Critias mention these uncomfortable facts, they are silenced by ridicule and defamation, and even death.
The symptoms of an increased cometary activity are systematically covered up by the elites as man-made phenomena. The jet contrails due to higher concentrations of atmospheric cometary dust are depicted as 'chemtrails', sprayed by government agencies, the ever more frequent overhead cometary explosions are presented as missile tests, the weather changes due to a decreased solar activity triggered by the approaching Sun's companion and its accompanying cometary swarm is labeled 'anthropogenic global warming'.
By attributing the cause of those cosmically induced events to men, the elites maintain the illusion that they are in control.
