SOTT FOCUS: Lament for Babylon
Anyway, as the horror increases daily on our planet and I feel more and more like I have awakened into a nightmare because of the rampant psychopathy on an almost global scale; as I observe the back and forth between Israel and the US, Israel and Gaza, the US and Russia, the manipulations of the US in Ukraine; Ukraine against its own people; wars in Africa, ISIS in Iraq; the growing peril of Ebola (and probably worse to come); the onward march of global climate change (not warming, oncoming Ice Age) burning, blasting, destroying; one thing keeps running through my head: Revelations Chapter 18. You see, even if the religious parts of the Bible, all the God said/did stuff, is hokum in my opinion, I still think that there were some fundamental texts that were utilized to create Judaism/Christianity/Islam, and those texts were descriptions of real events - cataclysmic events that we haven't seen the likes of since Rome was destroyed by similar processes. So, even if the book of Revelations might have been written much later, (and I don't think that Jehovah/Yahweh/any other God was doing things, and I think that 'angels' were actually descriptions of comets), I do think that it is possible that the Information Fundament of our reality can inform and inspire writers in ways we don't understand. That is, literary foreshadowing, drawing on unknown characteristics of the Cosmic Information Field, might be a valid channel of real prophecy.
For example, in 1898, fourteen years prior to the disaster, Morgan Robertson wrote a book called Futility, or the Wreck of the Titan. This story features an enormous British passenger liner called the Titan, which, deemed to be unsinkable, carries insufficient lifeboats. On a voyage in the month of April, the Titan hits an iceberg in the North Atlantic and sinks with the loss of almost everyone on board. Then, at the very time the sank, the 1 May 1912 issue of was on the news stands. It contained the short story "," which described the collision of an ocean liner with an iceberg in the Atlantic Ocean and its subsequent sinking. The story, by Mayn Clew Garnett (the pseudonym of sea-story author T. Jenkins Hains), needless to say, created a minor sensation. There was more: In 1912, the German newspaper published a serialized novel written by Gerhard Hauptmann, (who would receive the Nobel Prize in Literature later that year), that ran from January 9 until April 24. One month before the fateful April maiden voyage of the RMS , the story was also published by S. Fischer Verlag as the novel . is a romantic tale set aboard the fictitious ocean liner Roland, which is coincidentally doomed to a fate very similar to that of the RMS . This literary foreshadowing of the disaster received considerable attention at the time.
I don't think those individuals mentioned above, writing those stories, were in on any conspiracy nor were they making predictions; at least not as far as they knew! But that sort of thing - almost outrageous "synchronicities" - occur again and again and again. (Another example would be the correspondences between the Lincoln and Kennedy assassinations. Look it up.) So it's not just "literary" foreshadowing, there really is something surpassingly strange about our reality.
This response-ability of our Cosmos is pretty much the point that many ancient authors were trying to make when they wrote about gods and angels destroying wicked humans; in my view, those "gods and angels" are something like Emergent Archetypes of the Cosmic Information Field. When humanity does this, that and the other, it may enter into an archetypal field and once that is triggered, there's no way out: the dynamic plays out to the end. Maybe that's a partial explanation for why history seems to repeat itself?
Having said all that, it appears to me, as a lifelong student of History, that the peoples of the Earth have grabbed a Cosmic Information Archetype by the tail and it's way worse than the proverbial tiger. Let me try to be a little more specific: following the guidance of psychopaths in power, humanity has now been brought to the edge of a chasm, at the bottom of which can only be seen 'fire and brimstone'. Things really don't look good. While the - psychopaths in power - are consistent across the sweep of history, the actors behind the masks can change and shift like mercury.
For over 100 years now, the chief archetypal psychopath on the planet has been the United States; and the US is made up of psychopaths from all the previous "chief psychopaths" of other nations and Empires that have dominated at various times over the past 2000 years. The US psychopath is just bigger and worse than those that went before mainly because it has held sway during a period of history where such dominance can become global, particularly in our current 'high-tech' 'information age'. And thus, even if the author of Revelations was writing about an ancient city, or using an ancient city as a ruse to conceal a political statement at a much later time, I would like to suggest - as I did in my book - that 'Babylon the Great', the subject of the 18th chapter of Revelations, is a literary foreshadowing of the rise to power of the United States... and... its End.
So, without further ado, I present the text for your perusal and consideration.
Babylon Is Fallen
1 After these things I saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, and the earth was illumined with his glory. 2 And he cried out with a mighty voice, saying, "Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great! She has become a dwelling place of demons and a prison of every unclean spirit, and a prison of every unclean and hateful bird. 3 "For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the passion of her immorality, and the kings of the earth have committed acts of immorality with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich by the wealth of her sensuality."
4 I heard another voice from heaven, saying, "Come out of her, my people, so that you will not participate in her sins and ; 5 for her sins have piled up as high as heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities. 6 "Pay her back even as she has paid, and give back to her double according to her deeds; in the cup which she has mixed, mix twice as much for her.
7 "To the degree that she glorified herself and lived sensuously, to the same degree give her torment and mourning; for she says in her heart, 'I SIT as A QUEEN AND I AM NOT A WIDOW, and will never see mourning.'
8 "For this reason in one day , and she will be burned up with fire; for the Lord God who judges her is strong.
9 "And the kings of the earth, who committed acts of immorality and lived sensuously with her, will weep and lament over her when they see the smoke of her burning, 10 standing at a distance because of the fear of her torment, saying, 'Woe, woe, the great city, Babylon, the strong city! .'
11 " - 12 cargoes of gold and silver and precious stones and pearls and fine linen and purple and silk and scarlet, and every kind of citron wood and every article of ivory and every article made from very costly wood and bronze and iron and marble, 13 and cinnamon and spice and incense and perfume and frankincense and wine and olive oil and .
14 "The fruit you long for has gone from you, and all things that were luxurious and splendid have passed away from you and men will no longer find them.
15 "The merchants of these things, who became rich from her, will stand at a distance because of the fear of her torment, weeping and mourning, 16 saying, 'Woe, woe, the great city, she who was clothed in fine linen and purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls; 17 for in one hour such great wealth has been laid waste!'
And every shipmaster and every passenger and sailor, and as many as make their living by the sea, stood at a distance, 18 and were crying out as they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, 'What city is like the great city?' 19 "And they threw dust on their heads and were crying out, weeping and mourning, saying, 'Woe, woe, the great city, in which all who had ships at sea became rich by her wealth, for in one hour she has been laid waste!' 20 "Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you saints and apostles and prophets, because God has pronounced judgment for you against her."
21 Then a strong angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying, "So will Babylon, the great city, be thrown down with violence, and will not be found any longer. 22 "And the sound of harpists and musicians and flute-players and trumpeters will not be heard in you any longer; and no craftsman of any craft will be found in you any longer; and the sound of a mill will not be heard in you any longer; 23 and the light of a lamp will not shine in you any longer; and the voice of the bridegroom and bride will not be heard in you any longer; for your merchants were the great men of the earth, . 24 "And in her was found the blood of prophets and of saints and of all who have been slain on the earth."
